| Checking the Vehicles Availability Before Closing the Deal. |
Of course, before you make your appointment, you must verify the vehicle is still available.
If it is not available, the salesman will assure you that they will be able to get the vehicle. This process is usually accomplished by the dealer trading inventory with another dealer. The salesman will access another dealer’s inventory to see if the vehicle exists. This is commonly called a "locate". Keep in mind, just because the vehicle is located at another dealership that does not mean that they will be able to trade for it.
This can lead to difficult situation. Most dealers won’t trade for a vehicle until the have finalized a deal and most customers don’t want to begin negotiations on a vehicle that may not be available.
The customer can do two things, they can start over and call other dealerships to see if they have the car or they can work with the original dealer on a “locate”. If the customer chooses to work with the original dealer on a "locate", the dealer should be able to provide some evidence that the vehicle exists. The dealer usually can contact the trading dealer to verify that the vehicle would be available. A good way for you to check this availability is to have the dealer provide you with the miles on the "located" vehicle. |
